Scotland Food & Drink is facilitating a series of online workshops to support businesses within the Regional Food Group network develop their video skills.  Below you’ll find details of the workshops as well as email copy to send out to businesses. Who is the workshop aimed at?

The workshop is for food and drink business owners or marketing co-ordinators who are part of their local regional food group network and are ready to learn more about how to create video content on a budget.

What are the key takeaways for businesses?

The hands-on, practical training will set out the fundamental principles of video including why it’s important, when to use it and what it can deliver. Businesses will learn how to plan, shoot, edit and publish content and will leave with the skills and knowledge to create professional video content with minimal investment. Topics covered include:

  • Using your smartphone as a production camera and homemade rigs and lighting solutions
  • The best budget kit to buy
  • Storyboarding and shot sizes
  • How to shoot interviews and cutaways
  • Capturing good audio
  • Editing and effects
  • Optimising video for social media and how to build an audience

One-to-one feedback

Participants will also be required to submit a video within four weeks of the course to demonstrate how they have implemented the learnings followed by bespoke, individual feedback from the trainer through an online conversation and a screenshare editing session.

Event format

The half-day morning session is designed to be a small, interactive online workshop using the Zoom platform. All sessions will run from 9:30am-1:30pm and will include regular tea breaks.

One-to-one sessions must be booked within a 4-week window of the workshop.

How do businesses register?

Businesses must secure their place via Eventbrite. In order to support as many businesses as possible, spaces are limited to 10 businesses per workshop with only one delegate per business able to attend.

Meet the facilitator: Ross Dickson, Frame Agency

Ross is a filmmaker with over 10 years’ experience creating content for organisations including The Fringe, BBC, STV, Tate, National Galleries and The Big Issue. He’s made everything from music videos and travel films to exhibition content and feature length documentaries.
