Fiona Campbell, (35) from Glenrothes, came first in the conference’s salmon competition which involved preparing and serving a portion of salmon to a panel of judges.

The conference, which was held at Glasgow Hilton Hotel at the start of November, saw students, teaching staff and industry professionals come together from across the globe to enjoy a day packed full of demonstrations and competitions.

Fiona was joined at the conference by her HNC Professional Cookery class who were given the opportunity to network with chefs and professionals from all over the world. This included MasterChef winner for 2016, Gary MacLean; Head Chef at Restaurant Number One, Brian Grigor; Isaac McHale from The Clove Club in London and the Founder of the Scottish Chefs Conference, Willie Pike.

Fiona is delighted to have come first in one of the conference’s competitions, particularly as she was competing against so many talented chefs. Said Fiona: “I am still in utter shock that I won the salmon competition. I am extremely grateful for having the opportunity to demonstrate the skills I have developed at College at an industry recognised event.”

“I have really enjoyed my course so far! It has been challenging but I feel I have learned so much in such a short space of time.”

Curriculum Manager for Culinary Arts at Fife College, Lindsey Robertson is delighted with Fiona’s success and wishes her all the best for the future. Said Lindsey: “Fiona is a great example of a hardworking student who isn’t afraid to take on new opportunities. She has shown great progress in class in a very short timeframe and she should be very proud of herself for her achievements. We are all excited to see what the future holds for Fiona.”

Applications are now open for courses starting at Fife College in January 2018. This includes SVQ Professional Cookery and many more.
