A specially prepared menu inspired by harvest followed by Halloween broomstick making classes marks autumn at Scotland’s best-loved farm shop, Balgove Larder.

The farmers on Balgove Larder’s estate have brought in the harvest and to celebrate, the farm shop’s iconic Steak Barn will serve a menu of seasonal produce for everyone to enjoy.  The Harvest celebrations take place in line with Steak Barn opening times from 27 September to 1st October 2017.  Dishes will include wood pigeon kebab, radish & home-grown beetroot salad; home reared pork chop, Balgove savoy cabbage & bacon with twice-fried chips, gravy & Balgove apple sauce; and baked Balgove apples with vanilla custard.

Balgove Larder’s Steak Barn is a unique converted shed with walls made from potato crates and a huge wood-fired barbeque at its centre.  With long communal tables and its own bar, the Steak Barn is heated and popular into the winter and is open Wednesday – Sunday until November; Thursday – Sunday from November, 12:00pm – 8:30pm until 17th December.

With Halloween just weeks away, Balgove Larder is providing young wizards and witches with the opportunity to make their own broomsticks.  The Halloween Broomstick Making Class takes place on Saturday 28th October in Balgove Larder’s Steak Barn from 10am – 11.30am. Children, accompanied by an adult, will be given all the materials and shown how to make a broomstick made from quirky branches and twigs. Participants will also be given the chance to make witch and wizard hats to complete the look. The class will conclude with cups of hot chocolate and cookies.  The class costs £15 with booking essential.
