A highly successful collaboration between Food from Fife and Fife College has resulted in around 120 people attending a special dinner at the St Brycedale Campus in Kirkcaldy.

Aimed at celebrating local culinary talent and produce, the event brought together hospitality students, successful local businesses and guests for a high quality meal prepared in the college kitchen.

During the evening there talks from Scott Davies – head chef at the Adamson in St Andrews and finalist in BBC’s MasterChef: the Professionals 2013 and Julie Lewis, managing director of the Adamson.

Also speaking were Fiona and Nikki Pollock from Ardross Farm Shop, near Elie – Winners of Farm Shop of the Year 2014 and overall Scottish Regional Champion in the UK Farm Shop and Deli Awards.

Guests also had the chance to meet and hear from award winning brewers Bob Phaff from the St Andrews Brewing Company and Paul Miller of the Eden Brewery, and Fife chocolatier Gill Lyth from Hello Chocolate!

Food from Fife’s Viv Collie said that the evening had been a huge success for students and producers.

“The students were able to learn from people who are making a success of their businesses in the food and drink industry, and some extremely valuable contacts were established during the evening.

“There has been some wonderful feedback from people who attended, and we’d like to thank everyone who participated.” she said.

One comment received after the event summed the general response – “The food was excellent, the students were terrific and worked so hard.  The local businesses were excellent and very well chosen.”

The three course Scottish dinner and tastings – planned, prepared and served by a talented student team led by chef lecturer Scott Lyall  – featured:

Starter

Pan seared salmon fillet, Pea Puree, Broad Bean and Radish Salad,

Arbroath Smokie Fritter and Heather Honey and Mustard Dressing

Main Course

Braised Ox Cheek and Roast Sirloin Of Scotch Beef with Potato

Puree, Mushroom Spinach and Carrot

Dessert

Rhubarb Mousse, Rhubarb Crumble, Drambuie and Crabbies Ginger Ice Cream and Oatmeal Biscuit.
