The five red star Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa in St Andrews has laid on three unique experiences for dads to enjoy as part of this year Fathers’ Day celebrations.

They range from country sports to golf – and also include a unique cookery course at the hotel’s 3 AA rosette-awarded Road Hole Restaurant.

General Manager, Daniel Pereira said that there has been a considerable increase in interest for country sports over recent years.

“This year’s spring salmon season has produced a number of excellent catches so far.

“Specimen fish have been caught on the nearby River Tay at 35lb – so what better way to reward a hard working father than with a day on the river?”

Simon Clarke at Tay Salmon Fisheries, one of the the resort’s partners delivering Scottish Country Sport experiences, said that so far the 2013 season had been “outstanding”, with catches up more than 70% on the same period last year.

“The Tay offers excellent fishing opportunities for all abilities – and we are delighted to be working with the Old Course Hotel to provide guests with the opportunity to experience some of the best salmon fishing the world has to offer.”

For dads who golf the resort’s Championship Duke’s Golf Course is running an event on Fathers’ Day itself (Sunday 16th June).

A a son or daughter can join their Dad for nine holes of golf and enjoy a carvery lunch in the Duke’s award-winning Clubhouse with views across St Andrews.

The carvery is available as a celebration in its own right … and for Mums and Dads who take their children, the PGA professionals at the Duke’s Academy are laying on a free post lunch Junior Golf Tuition session, so parents can enjoy their coffee in peace!

David Scott, manager at The Duke’s said that Fathers’ Day will be a real family experience, with golf available, our fabulous carvery and free tuition for children who come and enjoy the day with their parents.

“We will also have a number of therapists from our Kohler Waters Spa at the Clubhouse on the day to pamper guests.”

 The cookery course is available as a gift to give on Fathers’ Day, to be enjoyed later this year – with dates set in August (17th), October (19th) and December (14th).

Daniel said that the event will include a cookery demonstration by executive chef, Martin Hollis.

The cookery demo at the hotel will be followed by a delicious two course lunch where the budding master chefs will enjoy the meal they have just learned how to cook in the stunning surroundings of the award–winning Road Hole Restaurant overlooking the Old Course links.”
