Celebrations around St Andrews Day will be given an added dimension this year with a special series of food and drink events in and around the famous town.

The St Andrews Food and Drink Festival will follow on from a successful partnership involving the Food from Fife /Visit St Andrews Tasting Theatre at the BBC Good Food Show in Glasgow.

Now the festival, which will run from November 23-December 3, will celebrate Fife’s wonderful produce during a ten day period around the patron saint’s day on November 30.

It will also complement the St Andrews Festival, which runs over the same period.

The food and drink festival events  events will showcase local producers and highlight the wonderful opportunities to eat, stay and shop in the famous town.

The programme will include a “Food from Fife” dinner at the Old Course Hotel, Resort and Spa, with chefs from some of the town’s leading establishments joining forces in the kitchen.

There will also be free chef demonstrations and tastings, an extended Fife Farmers Market with a “pop up restaurant”, and free tastings of local products at the Visitor Information Centre.

Other features include “food tours” provided by students from the Fine Dining Society at the University of St Andrews, and events involving wines, beers, whisky, cocktails  and cheese are being run by St Andrews businesses.

Also planned is a poetry and food tasting session with StAnza – Scotland’s Poetry Festival.

This will feature a food related poem specially commissioned from well known poet Robin Cairns and it will be recited by him for the very first time at the event.
