The recently established St Andrews Brewing Company continues to go from strength to strength, and is attracting interest all over the country.

Owner Bob Phaff told “Food from Fife” that his beers are now stocked in over 70 outlets across Scotland, and one in London.

Bob, of Kingsbarns, is realising his dream of creating a highly popular range of bottle conditioned “real ales”

Such ales have been Bob’s passion for many years, and he is endlessly fascinated by the fact that the four simple ingredients of malt, hops, yeast and water can create such a huge scope of styles, colours, aromas and tastes.

He launched his venture at start-up premises in Glenrothes, and hopes to transfer it to St Andrews itself.

There are now seven beers in his range, including  Fife Gold(4.2%), India Pale Ale(5%), Seventy Bob(3.8%), Eighty Bob(4.8%) Neuk Ale(4.6%) Oatmeal Stout(4.5%) and a Crail Ale(4.9%) which was specially created for the Crail Food Festival.

He is also working with local producers on plans for guest ales featuring ingredients such as fruit, chillies, and smoked oats and hops.

“I want to tell people simply how our beers are made: what hops I use and what flavours to expect, as well as serving suggestions, food pairings, and which beer could replace which wines at your next event or dinner party” said Bob.

He can be contacted through his website at, where there is also a full list of stockists.
