Food from Fife is celebrating Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight with a special end of summer season Autumn Harvest Feast at the acclaimed Balgove Larder Farm Shop, Butchery and Café near St Andrews.
Balgove, run by businessman Will Docker, is a member of Food from Fife, and has developed into a popular destination for locals and visitors.
The event is one of a series which has already seen food enthusiasts from Fife and beyond visit a wide variety of venues, with the last event held a few weeks ago aboard the “Reaper” during the Crail Festival.
The latest event, following a similar Balgove feast last year, will start with a pre-dinner cocktail followed by a butchery demonstration by master butcher, Graeme Braid. This year the demonstration will involve venison – a Balgove favourite.
Also attending will be Alex Nicol from the Spencerfield Spirit Company, who will take guests through a tasting of the company’s award winning Edinburgh Gins.
The meal itself will start off with a smoked beef carpaccio and freshly baked bread (using Balgove’s own wheat!).
This will be followed by roast haunch of venison with a healthy helping of local seasonal vegetables.
To finish, guests will enjoy a rustic apple galette topped with chantilly cream.
Vegetarians will also be catered for, with the menu including St Andrews Farmhouse Cheddar and caramelized tomato tart, followed by a beautiful main of risotto with local seasonal vegetables.
