Bowhouse is a place for making; making food by transforming the raw ingredients from the East Neuk’s farms and waters into finished products ready for the eager customer. This brand new initiative aims to replace a missing link in the food chain from farmer to consumer by providing dedicated space for producers – 6 units from 35–90m2 – to operate in, as well as a large, covered market space of 840m2 for up to 50 stalls, where food makers and growers can showcase their produce at markets and other events.

Bowhouse is located in the heart of the East Neuk, between St Monans and Elie. Tourism has long overtaken farming and fishing as the East Neuk’s core driver, and this ebb and flow of hungry and food-curious visitors offers an opportunity to local producers to recruit new and regular customers. At the same time commercial customers (ie. chefs and restaurants) around Fife and beyond can be served by local distributors hubbed here.

The covered market space at Bowhouse will allow makers’ markets and other events to be planned regardless of Scotland’s weather. These markets have the potential to attract customers from Edinburgh and beyond – keen to build a day in the East Neuk around sourcing food and meeting farmers, food producers and local farm shops who retail some of the best local produce.

Other facilities offered by Bowhouse include commercial kitchens, lavatories, mains water, gas and electric, space heating, disabled access and parking for up to 400 vehicles.
