Hospitality and Tourism lecturers from Adam Smith College have been celebrating after winning a prestigious award at the national Catering In Scotland (CIS) Awards held recently.
The awards event took place on Thursday 24 May at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow and brought together the cream of Scotland’s hospitality and tourism professionals from hotels, restaurants and colleges across the country.
The team picked up the accolade for Excellence in Hospitality Education, proving they are at the top of their field when it comes to training in this sector.
The Award is a fantastic achievement and recognises the great work carried out by the College, especially within the last academic year, which has seen it continue to work closely with industry partners.
Students have benefitted from a range of unique opportunities for learning and development including a Chocolate Masterclass with world recognised chocolatiers and partnership events and projects with Quality Meat Scotland.
The College continues to support students in competition work and this was evident in last year’s SCOTHOT event where the College won the overall Future Talent Kitchen and Restaurant categories. The win allowed two young Chefs to represent Scotland in the Nations Cup in Michigan, USA where they did the College and indeed the country proud. Adam Smith also developed and supported a team for the Front of House category and picked up a Gold Medal for their efforts.
Alongside doing well on the practical side, the department also has a superb reputation in Craft Skills, delivering a range of HN Qualifications which has seen it work closely with two European and three Australian partners to develop a unique Graduate Level Management qualification for Hospitality, Tourism and Events. The Graduate Certificate in Working Globally was launched in January 2012 and ten Scottish Hospitality students from Adam Smith have since benefitted from the life changing trip to Melbourne, Australia, while ten Australian students have had a similar experience in Scotland.
